Julie A. Sanderson

Diving as deep as 120 feet to explore old wrecks, beautiful fish and interesting creatures, Julie gathers images and inspiration. Then, using the shimmering surface of silk and vibrant colors of fiber reactive dyes, Julie connects her love of scuba diving, painting and God in hand-dyed silk paintings. For reference, Julie uses her husband’s radiant underwater photographs taken on their dive trips around the world.

Julie has been painting on silk since 1981 and she is one of the founding members of the San Diego Silk Guild. She has enjoyed exploring techniques with wax, rust, gutta and her trusty blow dryer.

She received an oil paint set and art lessons for her ninth birthday. Her traditional classical art education began under Fred Gong, a renowned portrait painter from Washington D.C. At UCSD, Julie went on to receive a visual arts degree magna cum laude. Julie has received awards in international spiritual and silk painting exhibitions. She is also a member of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild La Jolla Art Association, and Silk Painters International.

“May everything I do begin with His inspiration, continue with His guidance and end with His revelation”
